Logo Design
Context
I designed the logo for emerald blue, a marine service and ocean conservation initiative based in Mugi Town, Tokushima. With the slogan “Showcasing the Future of the Ocean,” the organization connects people and the sea, as well as local communities with the wider world, through marine activities and environmental efforts.
I was asked to design a logo that captures the feeling of the ocean, as well as elements of fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling, and surfing. I initially explored incorporating all of these elements into the design, but decided to avoid making it too complex. Instead, I focused on a letter-based approach that still clearly conveys the essence of “emerald blue” at first glance.
To express a sense of ocean depth, I connected the letters “m” and “l” in the wordmark, creating a smooth, flowing line. I also added bubbles to the “r” to subtly evoke the feeling of snorkelling. The final design is simple yet symbolic, aiming to represent both the brand name and its deep connection to the sea.
