brief

This project was created as a self-promotional illustrated sketchbook for a fictional placemaking company in Melbourne. The goal was to showcase my ability to communicate urban observations through drawing and design, as if applying for a graphic designer/visualiser role.

I produced four illustrated spreads, each capturing a different aspect of Melbourne’s character — from public behaviour and quirky architecture to community spaces. The drawings were created by hand, scanned, and enhanced in Photoshop using colour, textures, and handwritten text to create a rich visual diary. Each layout reflects an urban theme, exploring both charming and problematic elements of local life.

The project combines traditional sketching with digital layout to express a “designer’s eye” for urban culture, and to reflect the spontaneous and human nature of placemaking.
